毎年この時期になると季節の循環の美しさを強く感じる。
英国の冬はとにかく暗く、そして雨が多い。しかし、どんなに冬が長く、冷たくても必ず春はやってくる。その春の訪れがここでは本当に大きな喜びである。



水仙、クロッカスが咲き出すともう春もそこまで来ている！と春への期待がふくらむ。冬の間はなかなか自然界で見る花がない。うちの庭で唯一色を放ってくれているのが椿であった。この力強い赤には毎年惹かれる。しかしそれ以外は葉が落ち寂しい景観であった庭にも、新芽がどんどん現れてきた。


こうなるとあっという間に緑が庭に広がっていくので、気付くとすっかり植物が見事な葉を保ち、花を咲かせる準備を始めていたりする。
お花のお稽古を始めてから、私はうちの庭からいろいろな花材を集めて使っており、そのお陰で庭を歩く回数が増え、見逃していた植物の成長、“復活”の瞬間を目の当たりにできるようになった。
ついこの間気付いたのはアジサイの葉の現れ出る様。茎は枯れて死んでしまっているかのようなのに、そこから伸びる葉の力強さ、緑の鮮やかさに春の勢いを見た。

今ではプラムの花も咲き始め、少しずついろんな色の花が庭でも見られるようになってきた。
明日から4月。まだ寒いとは言え、庭がもう春である！と証明してくれている。




I feel the beauty of the circulation of the seasons this
time of the year.
Winter is very dark and wet in England. However, no matter
how long and cold winter is, spring comes without fail. The
advent of spring is such a great joy here.

Daffodils and crocuses make you feel spring is just around
the corner.
There are not many flowers you can see during the winter.
We have got a camellia in the garden. It is the only flower
which adds a colour to the garden before other flowers
come out. I adore the red the camellia gives out every year.
Except for the red, the garden looked quite sad but now
plants are bursting into leaf.

Once they start to come out, the garden will be filled with
green in no time and before I realise, the trees grow thick
with leaves and flowers are ready to bloom.
Since I started flower arranging course, I go down to the
garden more often to get some foliage and flowers for the
lessons and that gives me more opportunities to see the
moments when plants and trees are coming into life again.
The other day I noticed how powerfully the new leaves of
hydrangea coming out. The stems look still dry and dead but
the leaves show a vivid green and are reaching out toward
the sky vigorously. I saw the life of spring in the new
gorgeous leaves.

Now a plum tree and some flowers in the garden started to
bloom and we can see more colours all over the garden.
It’s already April tomorrow. Although it’s still quite cold
here, the garden proves that the spring is already here!
